Asbestos Diseases

Asbestos is a silicate mineral which was mined commercially, largely for its insulation properties.

Asbestos has been used in floor and wall tiles, panelling and insulation boards for homes and in laboratories, just to name a few.

Inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause serious illness including:

  • Mesothelioma;
  • Asbestosis;
  • Cancer of the lung and gastrointestinal Cancer;
  • Pleural plaques and pleural thickening of the lung.

The development of disease and illness associated with asbestos exposure takes some years. Anywhere between 10 to 50 years is not unheard of. This is called the "latency period".

If you have been diagnosed with any of the above illnesses, you should contact us immediately. Your first priority must be to address your health and treatment and leave the worry about litigating and securing compensation for your injury and illness to us.

If you have been diagnosed with any of the abovementioned illnesses, and you are unaware of where you may have been exposed to asbestos, we can certainly help.

Asbestos has been widely used in all manner of domestic and commercial applications and we are aware of the location of all the manufacturers of asbestos products throughout Victoria, and Australia.

We are able to isolate the likely location of exposure from the environment that you have grown up in or worked in to enable appropriate compensation to be claimed.

Therefore, if you have mesothelioma, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, asbestosis or pleural plaques, you will be able to make a claim.

Even if your employer at the time has gone out of business.

Even if your exposure was to asbestos with a number of employers.

Even if your exposure to asbestos was environmental, associated with where you grew up or played as a child.

You are entitled to claim even if you smoke cigarettes.

At Clark Toop & Taylor, we are experienced in the area of asbestos related injuries.

It is a specialist area requiring careful consideration of medical and legal issues. We understand the need for quick resolution and will apply to the Courts for a speedy hearing of your application for compensation.
